Weekly Reflection 7 ( Internship) phase 1

Weekly Reflection – Week 7 of My School Internship

Week 7 of my internship was filled with active teaching, observations, co-curricular engagements, and meaningful learning experiences. Each day offered opportunities to improve my teaching skills and develop a deeper understanding of classroom dynamics.

Day 31 – 15 September 2025

I reached the school by 9:00 a.m. and began my first period in Class IX A, where I continued and concluded the chapter “The Toilet.” The lesson focused on enhancing students’ comprehension and vocabulary skills. Using the textbook and flashcards as my teaching–learning resources, I guided students through reading activities, questioning, and a group task. Their engagement and improved confidence in using new vocabulary made the lesson truly fulfilling. I was glad to see how students related events from the story to their personal experiences.

Later, I had substitution periods in Classes VIII A and IX A, during which I provided additional notes related to the lesson. In my free periods, I used the time to prepare for upcoming classes and update my record work. Overall, it was a productive day, and I left the school by 4:15 p.m.

Day 32 – 16 September 2025

I reached school at 9:00 a.m. and began my day with a new poem in Class IX A titled “Success,” which was observed by my optional teacher. The objective of the lesson was to help students understand the idea of success through perseverance and patience. I used ICT, flashcards, and charts as resources, beginning the session with a motivational quote and a short animated video of “The Hare and the Tortoise.” This helped students connect the theme of success with determination and effort.

Students actively participated in discussions, and my observer appreciated my use of varied resources, blackboard work, and classroom management. A key suggestion was to incorporate more scaffolding questions for deeper interaction. During the eighth period, I had another session in 9A, where I completed the remaining stanzas of the poem. The students enthusiastically took part in the group activity based on qualities that lead to success. The afternoon also included a school quiz competition, and during the fifth period, I co-organized a school-based activity on Ozone Day, which was well received. I left the campus by 4:15 p.m.

Day 33 – 17 September 2025

Arriving at school by 9:00 a.m., I signed the attendance register and proceeded to my first class in 9A. I taught the grammar topic Adjectives using the Advance Organiser Model, aiming to help students identify and use adjectives correctly. Using charts, flashcards, and activity cards, I guided them through examples, comparisons, and sentence-construction tasks. Their active participation reflected their understanding.

During the second period, I had an observation class where I taught the poetic device Onomatopoeia using the Concept Attainment Model. Students enjoyed listening to sound clips and identifying onomatopoeic words, making the class lively and engaging. In the afternoon, I assisted with discipline during a science quiz and later handled a substitution period in 8A. I completed the day by updating my record work and preparing lessons for the following day, leaving school at 4:15 p.m.

Day 34 – 18 September 2025

The entire day was dedicated to the Arts and Science Competition, and no regular classes were conducted. The school campus was filled with colour, creativity, and excitement as students showcased a wide range of exhibits. The Arts section featured beautifully crafted items made from paper and cloth, intricate paintings, decorative wall hangings, and handmade models. In the Science section, students presented working and non-working models, charts, demonstrations, and innovative experiments that reflected their understanding of scientific concepts.

Walking through the exhibition rooms, I was amazed by the originality and effort students had put into their work. Their creativity, teamwork, and confidence were evident in the way they explained their exhibits to teachers and visitors. It was inspiring to see how such activities bring out students' hidden talents and encourage them to think beyond textbooks.

As a teacher trainee, the experience helped me appreciate the importance of co-curricular activities in nurturing creativity, problem-solving skills, and multiple intelligences at this age. Events like these remind us how essential it is to give students opportunities to explore, experiment, and express themselves freely. I left the school by 4:15 p.m., feeling enriched by the learning atmosphere of the day.

Day 35 – 19 September 2025

I reached the school by 9:00 a.m. and began the day by conducting my achievement test for the students. The test progressed smoothly, and the students were able to complete it comfortably within the allotted time, demonstrating their understanding of the portions covered so far.

During the sixth period, I taught Noun Phrase and Verb Phrase in Class 9A using the Direct Instructional Model. I introduced the concept using clear charts and examples, followed by blackboard exercises that helped students identify and form noun and verb phrases accurately. The group activity card further reinforced their learning, and the students participated actively throughout the session. To ensure continued practice, I assigned a set of sentences as homework.

I also handled substitution periods in Classes 8A and 9B. During these hours, the students were given the opportunity to visit the Arts and Science Exhibition that had been prepared by their peers the previous day. It was encouraging to see them eagerly exploring the exhibits, appreciating the creative items made from paper, cloth, and other materials, as well as the science models and projects displayed. Their excitement reflected how meaningful such events are in promoting curiosity and collaborative learning.

In the afternoon, the school counselor conducted a Life Skills session, focusing on essential skills for students’ personal and social development. It was a valuable session that added to the holistic learning environment of the day.

I concluded my work and left the school at 4:15 p.m.
