CONSCIENTIZATION PROGRAMME.
A conscientization programme is an educational initiative aimed at creating awareness and critical understanding among individuals about social, cultural, or environmental issues. Rooted in Paulo Freire’s concept of “conscientização,” it encourages participants to reflect, question, and take informed action to bring about positive change in society. Such programmes help people move beyond passive observation, empowering them to become active agents in addressing real-life challenges.
As part of our B.Ed curriculum, we conducted a conscientization programme on the topic Gender Equality. The objective was to create awareness about the importance of treating all genders with equal respect, opportunities, and rights. We began the session by introducing the theme through the guiding words "Gender Equality", setting the tone for an engaging and thought-provoking discussion.
To make the session more impactful, we presented a series of videos, including some advertisements that clearly portrayed gender inequality in various aspects of life. These visuals highlighted the stereotypes and biases that still exist in society, encouraging participants to reflect on their own perspectives and attitudes. We also discussed how women are often expected to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, balancing professional responsibilities with household duties. This segment aimed to shed light on the disproportionate expectations placed on women and the need for a fairer distribution of responsibilities.
