Subject Association Day – Day 4

The fourth day of the Subject Association celebrations was observed on November 8th in connection with the World Day for Peace and Development. The programme highlighted the importance of peace, unity, and sustainable development in the modern world and emphasized the role of literature, communication, and critical thinking in fostering harmony. The event encouraged students to reflect on conflict resolution, moral responsibility, and the power of dialogue in building a peaceful society.

The programme was anchored by Shereena, who introduced the theme and set a thoughtful tone by stressing the need for peace in a conflict-ridden world and the role of development in sustaining it. The session began with a prayer that invoked unity and compassion, allowing participants to reflect on the significance of peace in daily life. This was followed by the Indian National Pledge, led by Shahina, which reinforced a collective commitment to unity, responsible citizenship, and national development. Shamna presented the New Word of the Day, explaining its relevance to peace and encouraging meaningful usage, while Akshara shared an inspiring Thought for the Day, highlighting how small acts of kindness can contribute to a peaceful society. A brief news update was delivered by Shermi, who spoke about recent global initiatives and discussions related to peace and sustainable development.

A literary exploration session focused on how literature addresses peace and conflict. Alen introduced War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, emphasizing its portrayal of the devastating effects of war and the moral growth of individuals. Sophia presented Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, linking its psychological exploration of guilt and redemption to the idea of inner peace. Fathima discussed Beyond War by Douglas Fry, explaining how the work challenges traditional views of human aggression and argues that peace is a natural human tendency.

An interactive communication game was conducted by Saafi, where students from different departments participated in paired activities involving peace-related words. The game highlighted the importance of effective communication, teamwork, and understanding in promoting harmony, reinforcing the theme of the day in an engaging manner.

The programme concluded with a collective reflection on the importance of peace and sustainable development in today’s world. Through literature, discussions, and interactive activities, students gained a deeper understanding of their role in promoting harmony and cooperation. The fourth day of the Subject Association celebrations proved to be insightful and meaningful, fostering awareness of peace, unity, and global responsibility.
