The fifth day of the Subject Association celebrations was observed on November 25th in connection with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The programme aimed to raise awareness about gender-based violence and emphasize the role of education, literature, and social responsibility in promoting women’s safety, equality, and empowerment.
The event was anchored by Shahina, who introduced the theme and highlighted the importance of addressing violence against women. The programme began with a prayer followed by the Indian National Pledge led by Fathima, reinforcing values of justice and equality. Saafi presented a meaningful Thought for the Day, while Alen introduced the New Word of the Day related to feminist discourse. A brief news update on recent developments in women’s rights was presented by Mary, and Sophia explained the significance and global importance of the day.
The literary session focused on prominent feminist writers, with Judith Butler, Virginia Woolf, and Maya Angelou being introduced through their key contributions to feminist thought and literature. A calligraphy competition coordinated by Shereena encouraged students to creatively express empowering messages on gender equality. The programme concluded with reflections on the importance of literature and awareness in combating violence against women, making the day both informative and impactful.
