Weekly reflection 5. Internship phase 2

 Week 5 of My Internship (11 – 15 August 2025)

The fifth week of my internship was shorter in terms of teaching hours, as I only had three working days in the classroom—Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. During these days, I mainly focused on grammar lessons. I introduced the students to concepts such as active and passive voice and phrasal verbs, along with other grammar portions. To make these topics clearer, I used charts and other teaching-learning materials (TLMs), which helped the students understand abstract concepts more easily. I also gave them plenty of practice questions, and it was satisfying to see them attempt the exercises with interest. This reminded me of how important it is to pair explanation with practice, as students grasp grammar better when they can apply it immediately.

On Thursday (14 August), the school held its student elections. Since much of the day was dedicated to election activities, we had relatively free time as teacher trainees. However, I made use of this time to interact with students informally and clear some of their doubts from the lessons I had already taught. This small but meaningful engagement showed me how even outside formal lessons, teachers can play an important role in guiding students and strengthening their understanding.

Finally, on Friday (15 August), the school celebrated Independence Day. We attended the morning program, which included flag hoisting and cultural performances by the students. The spirit of the day was uplifting, and though classes were not held, it was heartening to see how the school community came together to celebrate the nation. Moments like these highlight that education is not just about academic progress but also about fostering a sense of identity, patriotism, and community belonging among students.

Since there had been two holidays during the week, we also had an extra class on Saturday (16 August), which lasted till the afternoon. I used this time to clear the final doubts of my students and re-explain some portions of the text for better understanding. This extra session was fruitful as it gave me a chance to reinforce concepts and ensure that students were confident with the lessons taught.

Though it was a shorter week of teaching, Week 5 was still meaningful. It taught me that whether in the classroom or beyond, every interaction with students—be it teaching grammar, clearing doubts, or celebrating together—contributes to their overall growth and my own journey as a teacher.
